Whether you’re casting a line or catching the sunset, there’s limitless beauty and adventure to be found in the Rangeley Lakes Region.

  Saddleback Bike Shop & Mountain Bike Park

  Stay a while and experience what Saddleback has to offer. The Saddleback Adventures Team can help connect you with your next big outdoor adventure. During the summer & fall, the South Branch Mountain Bike Trails are open 7 days a week from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Riders must purchase a day ticket or season pass and complete a waiver at the Saddleback Adventures Desk before riding. The Saddleback Adventures Desk is located on the first floor of the base lodge when you enter the lower-level sliding glass doors.

  Hiking

  Anchored by the Appalachian Trail, which runs directly across Saddleback’s summit, and in the heart of a northern boreal forest, Rangeley is the epicenter of some of the best hiking in the east. The Fly Rod Crosby Trail, which traverses the western end of the mountain and takes you to a number of remote and transcendental ponds and streams, intersects the Appalachian Trail and continues on to Philips. Along the way, you can take a side trip up the Berry Picker’s Trail, named for the abundant wild blueberries on the summit of Saddleback. The Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust offers a network of easy walking trails throughout the area, all within a short from of Saddleback.

  Fishing

  Water, water, everywhere: That’s not the slogan of the aptly-named Rangeley Lakes Region, but it sure could be. And with that water comes some of the best fishing in North America, which is why this region has been a mecca for fly fisherman since the early 1880’s. Whether you’re after brookies or bass (or pretty much any other northern freshwater species, for that matter), you’ll find ample opportunity to cast a line in the many lakes, rivers, and streams surrounding Rangeley.

  Canoeing and Kayaking

  Everything that makes Rangeley’s fishing opportunities so abundant also makes for nearly endless canoeing and kayaking options. From whitewater to placid lakes, and everything in between, we’ve got exactly the water you’re looking for. Take a guided tour with one of our local operators, or find your own way.

  Golf

  With two public golf courses to choose from, and a spectacular backdrop everywhere you look, Rangeley has plenty of options for getting out on the greens. Laid back yet challenging golf awaits. Just don’t blame us if you get distracted by the amazing views and whiff a shot or two (you wouldn’t do that, would you?)

  Birding

  Saddleback’s Northern Boreal forest is a habitat of abundance for bird species and has made Rangeley and Saddleback a mecca for birders. From rare bird species like Bicknell’s Thrush to Canada Jays, hawks, woodpeckers, and bald eagles, the abundance of bird life in this region is a feast for the eyes and the ears. And if you’re so inclined, you can even take a nature photography workshop and learn how to bring your discoveries home.
